School of International Communication

Our Mission

John C. Daniels School of International Communication is committed to the belief that all children are capable of learning. Through our dual language program, all children are instructed in Spanish and English with the goal of becoming bilingual and bi-literate in both languages by the end of eighth grade. We focus on the development of the whole child: intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Through this focus we address individual differences and needs while challenging and motivating each child to reach their full potential.

Wow this week went by so fast!

  • This week we learned about the letters H, E and B.  Please remember to have your child practice writing all the letters as well as his/her name.
  • In shared reading we sang the song "Walking in the Woods".  We discussed what we can see in the woods, that we read from left to right and top to bottom and we pointed to each word as we sang the song.  We also added on to the song with our very own verses!  Ask your child to sing it for you or make up some of your own verses with your family!
  • Our comprehension book this week was My Five Senses by Aliki.  We discussed our five senses (what they are and how we use them) and how they make us aware.  We also wrote about our five senses this week in writing.  When reading to your child please make sure you identify the author and illustrator for him/her.  We have been discussing the authors and illustrators of the books we read and also what their jobs are.
  • In math we began learning all about the number 8!  We wrote the number 8, identified 8 objects and continued with identifying objects that are the same and different.  At home have your child practice counting and make sure they are using 1-1 correspondence (they are pointing to one object as they count).
  • In social studies we are wrapping up on unit The World in My Backyard.  We are ending our unit by publishing a family book!  Each student has written a book about his/her family!  Please stop by the classroom next week and check them out!
  • In science we have been discussing the weather and using our five senses to observe it.  This week we observed the wind and determined what type of wind speed we had on the day of our observation.  Ask your child to show you how to observe the wind!

REMINDERS:

  •  Report card conferences begin on Monday!  Reminders notices are being sent home today...please check your child's backpack so you do not miss your appointment!  If you are unable to attend for some reason please let us know so that we can reschedule for another date.
  •  Next Friday (11/18) is a town meeting.  We will be sharing at this town meeting. We will share what we have been learning about during our first unit:  The World in my Backyard.  You are more than welcome to attend the town meeting.  I know it is in the afternoon but not exactly sure of the time...I'll let you know.
