John C. Daniels

School of International Communication

Our Mission

John C. Daniels School of International Communication is committed to the belief that all children are capable of learning. Through our dual language program, all children are instructed in Spanish and English with the goal of becoming bilingual and bi-literate in both languages by the end of eighth grade. We focus on the development of the whole child: intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Through this focus we address individual differences and needs while challenging and motivating each child to reach their full potential.

Please join us on the evening of February 15th in the JCD auditorium for a special Black History Month program.  JCD students have been interviewing African American members of the New Haven community to learn how Martin Lutehr King, Jr. has impacted them and them in their profession.  We encourage you and your family to attend this special event.

This is the time of year when families are starting to look at our school as they decide where to send their children to school in the fall.  We are busy setting up tables at magnet fairs (1/4/12 from 6-8pm at Hillhouse Fieldhouse and 1/14/12 at 12pm at Career High School), hosting Open Houses (1/18/12 at 6:30pm and 1/20/12 at 9:50 and 12:50), and giving personal tours by appointment.

Our goal is to make sure that, if you are thinking about sending your child to Daniels School next year, you ave all the information and support you need to make that decision comfortably.  To that end, the application process is detailed below.  Please call the school at 203-691-3604 if you have any questions or would like to schedule a personal tour.

Here's what to do to apply:

  1. 1.  Decide what schools you will apply for.  JCD is a dual language school, and your child will learn all subjects in both English and Spanish in grades K-5.  Please take our specialized bilingual program into consideration as you choose your top 3 preferences.
  2. 2.  Visit us for an Open House or a personal tour.
  3. 3.  Submit a magnet application by February 17.  You can send a paper copy to the Magnet Office at 54 Meadow St.; New Haven, CT  06519 or submit it online HERE.
  4. 4.  Watch for a letter from the magnet office shortly after the lottery on March 13, 2012.  Your letter will have a PIN which you need to have handy any time you call the NHPS magnet office for updates or more information.
  5. 5. We can schedule another visit (PK-2) or a shadow day (3-8) once you know you've been accepted.

Dear Wellness Committee and staff,

There will still be a meeting tomorrow morning to go over the latest with our garden that will be started outside of our school. We look forward to adding to our group that is dedicated to the improvment of our school. Any parent interested in discussing health and wellness issues is invited to join us each month.  We ask you to come at 7:30 in the first floor conference room so that we can finish by 8am, when the teacher in-service begins.

Thank you for all your support,

Katie Hale
