Our Mission

John C. Daniels School of International Communication is committed to the belief that all children are capable of learning. Through our dual language program, all children are instructed in Spanish and English with the goal of becoming bilingual and bi-literate in both languages by the end of eighth grade. We focus on the development of the whole child: intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Through this focus we address individual differences and needs while challenging and motivating each child to reach their full potential.

I would like to remind all 7th and 8th grade parents/guardians that their children are responsible for reading an autobiography/ biography of any athlete and that the report is due no later than Friday, October 21, 2011.  There are a number of students who have not turned in their book report form telling me what book they will be reading.

Thanks,

Ms. Wright

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Welcome to 7th/8th grade math! This letter will provide you with information about our math class and answer some questions you may have about the year. As a 7th/8th grader, your child will build on all of the math topics he or she has learned in previous years and eventually extend his or her thinking algebraically.

Homework is an essential aspect of learning and will be assigned 4 to 5 times a week. Your child should expect to spend between 10 to 15 minutes on each assignment. If your child misses class (due to illness, music lesson, etc.), he or she is responsible for making up the assigned homework, as well as any activities from class that day. I will be available after school everyday to work with any students in need of additional help.

Assessment is another important aspect of learning. There will be daily quizzes to measure knowledge of important skills and as well as tests to measure learning for an entire chapter/unit. Grading will be done in accordance with the math department policy and quarterly grades will be calculated as follows:

Tests:                                                         40%

Quizzes:                                                      30%

Class work/Participation:                              15%

Homework:                                                  15%

It is essential that each student come prepared to class everyday with his or her math notebook, textbook, homework and a pencil. The calculator we will use this year is the Texas Instrument TI-15 and will be provided on a needed a basis.

I am very happy and excited to have the opportunity to teach your child mathematics this year. I will make every effort to make lessons both interesting and effective. If you have any questions or concerns it is best to email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
